Home > Equipment > ToolsToolsMy XT came without the factory-supplied tool kit so I have to make up my own. As one of modifications is to replace the factory tool "tube" with a larger tube to fit more tools, it is an ideal opportunity to fit it out with better tools than what the factory supplied."Basic" Tool Kit: (All in large tool tube, the ones I have are listed in blue) Plug socket, 18mm Double-ended "L" style bit driver - this came with an assortment of bits for computer repair so I substituted my own mix. Hex bits:
Stubby bit screwdriver Pliers with side cutters Open-ended ring spanners (or "combination wrenches"): 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, 17mm Combination tyre iron/6-point spanners: 19mm (1) and 22mm (2) - these were suggested by one of the guys on the XT225 forum 1/4" Ratchet drive and extension bar for sockets Sockets: 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, 17mm Crescent, 150mm (6") Crescent, 100mm (4") Feeler gauge set - for setting the spark gap Pressure gauge, slim-line Shop rag Small LED Flashlight w/ fresh batteries Small retractable-blade craft knife (X-acto style) Piece of sandpaper, 1200 grit - for cleaning the spark plug terminals Latex gloves - no, I'm not generally adverse to greasy hands but grease plays havoc with the thermal liners of motorbike gloves. "L" bit driver; bit set containing blade, phillips, hex bits and socket adapter; extension bar and sockets On a lengthy tour, I would also find room on the bike for the following: 3-4m lightweight tow rope Puncture repair kit Air pump Jumper leads Plastic funnel 2-3 litre plastic oil trap Toothbrush - for cleaning chain, engine casings |
