Motorcycling Books and DVDs I Own

Books:

Street Bike Fun: How To Ride To Save Your Hide by Bob Jackson. One of the earliest books I bought. I found it well written, informative and it also had lots of pictures of a Honda CB360, which was the bike I owned at the time. You can read my review on Amazon.com here.

Jupiter's Travels by Ted Simon. I borrowed this from the library and read it not long after it was first published. I was a young budding motorcyclist at the time and found it greatly inspiring. Recently bought myself a second-hand copy and just finished reading it again.

Riding High by Ted Simon. Found a copy in the second-hand bookshop - an old hardcover edition with the older title "Riding Home". Have yet to read it.

The Last Hurrah - From Beijing to Arnhem 2005 by Des Molloy. Just started reading this. I met Des Molloy at the Hamilton screening of the Last Hurrah DVD and bought the DVD and book.

The Long Way Round: Chasing Shadows Across the World by Ewan MacGregor and Charley Boorman. Watched the series and so bought the book. Have yet to read it.

Lois on The Loose by Lois Pryce. A brilliant book - extremely well written. Her brilliant attitude and sheer determination make her one of the World's true adventurers.

Silk Riders - In the Footsteps of Marco Polo by Jo and Gareth Morgan. My copy of this came with a DVD on a pocket inside the back cover. Have not read it yet.

DVDs

Riding in Groups - Road Safety video on the "do"s and "don't"s of group riding.

The World's Fastest Indian - dramatisation of Burt Munro's first trip to the Bonneville salt flats, starring Anthony Hopkins as Burt Munro and directed by Roger Donaldson.

The Last Hurrah - From Beijing to Arnhem 2005. Filmed by Stephen Molloy and edited by Katrina Jones.

Quest for Victory - Documentary on the history of ELF's involvement in motorcycle sport. Great footage of various riding disciplines from Moto-GP through Trials and Motocross to the Paris-Dakar Rally.

Silk Riders DVD - included with the above book. A thoroughly enjoyed watching this.

"Must Own" List:

Mondo Enduro (book and DVD) and its sequel Terra Circa (DVD)

Offerings to the God of Speed (DVD) - Roger Donaldson's original documentary about Burt Munro.

Road to Dakar by Charley Boorman (book and DVD)

New Zealand Motorcycle Atlas - 100 Top Rides by Peter Mitchell. I was loaned a copy of this and I heartily recommend it to anyone planning to tour New Zealand by motorcycle. It has suggested itineraries for 5- and 10-day tours, full colour maps and tantalising pictures of some of the scenery you are likely to encounter. The rides are all rated with a "smile factor" based on what motorcyclists value in a ride.
