Planned Rides and Events

As the readers may have gathered, I'm interested in touring by motorcycle. It is my hope to tour overseas in the future, but - in the meantime - I plan to tour my own country.

I live in what has been described as a "Pocket Wonderland" with spectacular mountains and wild rocky outcrops; lakes, coast-lines and rivers; rainforests and savannahs, caves and natural hot pools. We also have our fair share of historic places and beautiful architecture; gold mining settlements and battlegrounds...

As the old advertisement said: "Don't leave town 'til you've seen the country."

What follows is a list of places I want to visit, roads I aim to ride and events I plan to attend. It will be added to over time, as new roads and destinations take my fancy, and some parts will be marked off once I have achieved them.

Rusty Nuts Grand Challenge - 1000 miles (1609km) in 24 hours, hosted by the Rusty Nuts Motorcycle Club.
Rakaia Bridge
- State Highway 1 South of Christchurch - longest in New Zealand.
Crown Range road - highest road in New Zealand, summit 1119.7m.
'Round the Coast - both Islands taking the most coastal roads possible. May have to take a leaf out of Axel's book and do this in stages.
Manawatu Gorge - between Ashhurst and Woodville.  We went through there in the car when going to pick up the boys' motorbike and it's beautiful.

If anyone has suggestions for routes to take or sights to see, feel free to send me an email and let me know.
